EXCLUSIVE: Michael Zullo has blasted those trying to brand Brisbane Roar a crisis club riddled with damaging playing cliques.
Roar have endured a tough season with as many headlines about matters off the pitch as those about results on it.
Financial issues, poor crowds, Frank Farina's dismissal, Ange Postecoglou's arrival and the departures of three senior players have hogged the back pages when it comes to Roar coverage.
But Zullo is adamant that the picture is not all doom and gloom and that life goes on despite the exits of Craig Moore, Charlie Miller and Liam Reddy, who has compared life under Postecoglou with a trip to the dentist.
As he prepares for this weekend's trip to Wellington Phoenix, Zullo said spirits in the camp were good.
"When things are going well then there's praise but people can be very quick to jump on your back when they believe things are going wrong," Zullo told au.fourfourtwo.com today. "People look at a situation and make up their minds.
"I find it amusing that people make judgments like that. In any walk of life you have groups where certain people are particular friends with other people. There's nothing strange about that and it doesn't mean there is animosity.
"Players move on and when Frank Farina left, it was a new chapter."
Zullo admits the departures of three senior figures was a blow but he doesn't feel it should trigger a collapse in morale or see the current season written off.
"Craig, Charlie and Liam were very experienced players for us, big losses, and I'd be lying if I said they weren't but we still have a lot of talent in this squad," he said.
"I still think think we have enough to challenge and I'm sure the coach is looking at new signings."
Although Roar have much work to do if a top six finish is to be secured, Zullo insists it is still a realistic target.
"We have a tough trip to Wellington but if we can get three points there and build on that then you push forward," he said. "What is vital is that we stay focused for 90 minutes in the games remaining."
On a personal level, Zullo is just hoping for a good run of games through to the end of the season after enduring a campaign badly disrupted by a number of injuries.
He added: "It's been very frustrating but hopefully that's behind me now."
