Strong form in the Hyundai A-League last season helped Zullo break into the Olyroos for the Intercontinental Cup held in Kuala Lumpur in May.

Despite appearing six times since his debut against Croatia in that tournament, the young winger was unable to force his way into the final 18-man squad heading for China.

“It’s disappointing, because obviously you want to be a part of the best squads,” Zullo said. “I always knew it was going to be hard to make the final squad knowing that I came in so late and there were older players and Socceroos in the mix.

“I’m disappointed but at the same time I went there to improve myself as a player and I think I’ve done that.”

Despite being overlooked this time around, Zullo has not closed the door on the possibility of representing Australia at the Olympics in the future.

“I’m a few months too old to be eligible to go (in 2012) but there are opportunities to go later in your career,” he said.

“Craig Moore went as an overage player and he said it was a great experience so that might be an option but I’ll just see where my career takes me.”

Zullo will now turn his attention to the Roar’s clash with Brazilian giants Palmeiras at Suncorp Stadium on July 12.
