FC Zurich made Scott Chipperfield's Basel pay for their weekend draw by winning 3-0 at basement-dwellers Lucerne on Monday night to claim top spot in the Super League.
After Basle were held 1-1 by Grasshoppers on Sunday, Zurich took full advantage to move level on points with their title rivals with a comprehensive win marred only by the late sending off of Adrian Nikci.
Hannu Tihinen scored in the 15th and 38th minutes to get them on their way and Alexandre Alphonse added the third midway through the second half before Nikci saw red 11 minutes from time.
The win gives Zurich 25 points from 11 games, ahead of Basle on goal difference.
Lucerne remain rooted to the bottom of the table without a win and with only two points from 11 games.
