A friendly ahead of this summer’s tournament between World Cup-bound Argentina and Israel was cancelled, the Argentine sports newspaper Ole reported on Tuesday.
The game was set to take place in Jerusalem on Saturday. Now Argentina are looking for a new opponent to play as they continue their preparations for the FIFA World Cup, which gets underway on June 14.
Earlier the Palestinian Ambassador to Argentina condemned the match between Israel and Argentina. A group of Palestinians also staged a protest against the planned game during a training session held by Argentina in Barcelona.
Russia’s first-ever FIFA World Cup will take place from June 14 to July 15 in 11 host cities. Two-time World Cup winners Argentina are set to face Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria in Group D.
