The Egyptian Parliament and the Egyptian Embassy in Russia have thanked Russia's Chechen Republic and its leader Ramzan Kadyrov for organizing Egypt's World Cup base in the Chechen capital Grozny, the press service of the republic's government said on Friday.
Egypt lost all their Group A matches and were eliminated from the tournament, with a number of Egyptian and European media blaming the choice of their base camp, which was located miles away from the cities the team played their games in, as one of the reasons for their poor performance.
"Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Ihab Nasr expressed his profound gratitude to the republic's head Ramzan Kadyrov and all the people in the region for their hospitality and wonderful reception of the Egyptian national team. It became known that the Egyptian Parliament expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Chechen Republic and to Ramzan Kadyrov personally," Chechen Minister of National Policy, External Relations, Press and Information Dzhambulat Umarov said as quoted by the press service.
