Germany did not deserve to win the 2018 World Cup, head coach Joachim Low said on Wednesday.
The defending champions crashed out of the tournament after losing 2-0 to South Korea in Kazan on Wednesday. This is the first time since 1938 that Germany have failed to qualify from the group stage of the World Cup.
"It's difficult to say what went wrong. Of course, we are disappointed that we haven't reached the knockout stage. We need to congratulate our opponents. We didn't deserve to win the World Cup again, we didn't even deserve a spot in the knockout stage. We wanted to win, but couldn't even step forward. We were always lagging behind," Low told journalists.
The head coach added that his team could not score when they had chances, as they were under pressure.
"We saw that Sweden were leading in the match and that we needed to score. The players were under pressure, so they couldn't keep their cool and take their chances," Low said.
