In May, the 58-year-old specialist, who took charge of Germany in 2006 and steered the team to the World Cup triumph in Brazil in 2014, extended his contract with DFB till 2022.

“The DFB management had decided to extend Low’s contract before the World Cup, because we believe that the changes that will take place after the World Cup, regardless of the results, will be best carried out by Jogi Low," said Grindel.

"He proved a year ago at the Confederations Cup that he can turn young players into an impressive and outstanding team,” he added.

Germany suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat by Mexico in their opening game at the World Cup before edging Sweden 2-1 to revive their campaign.

They face South Korea in Kazan later tonight.
