"I am sure that Russian football will be actively developing after this World Cup. Everything that I saw has been [built] up to the highest world standards. I think Russian football will have a bright future," Matic told journalists.

He added that his national side had "moved up to the next level in the past few years" and this is the "the best year for Serbian football" in the past decade.

Serbia beat Costa Rica 1-0 in Samara on Sunday and will face Switzerland in Kaliningrad in their second Group E match.

They are currently top of the group, followed by five-times World Cup champions Brazil and Switzerland who are in second with one point.
