Mexico, who won their first two games at the tournament, advanced to the knockout stage as Group F runners-up despite their 3-0 defeat by Sweden this morning, thanks to South Korea's shock 2-0 victory over Germany on the same day.

Both 2014 champions Germany and South Korea were knocked out.

"Showing thanks to our South Korean friends as the official beer of the Mexican national football team. Cheers to you, brothers," the beer manufacturer posted on their Twitter account adding a photo of the crates delivered to the embassy.

The letter attached to the boxes said that the company wanted to congratulate South Korea "on a great effort at this year's World Cup and today's big win."

"If you need a team to cheer for, we'd love it to be Mexico - we welcome all fans!" the company added.

Mexico will face Brazil in the round of 16 match in Samara on Monday.
