Russia are confident after reaching this summer's FIFA World Cup quarter-finals, Lithuania head coach Edgaras Jankauskas said..
Russia will take on Croatia in Sochi on Saturday after edging out 2010 World Cup winners Spain on penalties on Sunday to reach their first-ever World Cup quarter-finals.
"I don't have favorites in the matches. Croatia look stronger on paper, but the Russian team are playing at home with their fans' support. The chances to reach the semi-finals are equal. The strengths of [Russia head coach] Stanislav Cherchesov's team are their unity, fighting spirit and high-level devotion. After beating Spain, confidence was added to skills. The team are ready for the match and reaching the semi-finals," Jankauskas said.
The head coach added that he was impressed with Russia's results at the tournament, while he also liked Sweden, Iran and Croatia.
"I won't be surprised if Belgium or Uruguay become champions... Everyone who reaches the semi-finals has equal chances to win. Russia impressed me with their success at the World Cup, hardly anybody expected to see them among the world's eight most powerful teams. I also liked Sweden, Iran, Croatia," Jankauskas said.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on June 14 and will continue until July 15, with the matches being played in 11 cities across Russia.
