Russia should welcome the visit of Japanese Princess Hisako, as it demonstrates Tokyo's readiness for a dialogue with Moscow, Deputy Chair of the Russian State Duma International Affairs Committee Aleksei Chepa told Sputnik.
Earlier in the day, Princess Hisako arrived in the Russian city of Saransk and attended the FIFA World Cup match between Japan and Colombia. Japan won with a score of 2-1.
"We should welcome the fact that attempts by some politicians to encourage leaders of many countries to avoid traveling to Russia do not work — they fail. Because everyone sees what a wonderful celebration we are having ... This visit can be viewed as Japan's willingness to hold a dialogue," Chepa said, adding that Russia was open to everyone.
As the Honorary Patron of the Japan Football Association, the Japanese princess has attended all FIFA World Cups since 1998. She has become the first member of the Japanese Imperial Family to visit Russia since World War I.
