A 83-year-old St. Petersburg-based woman has become the oldest volunteer working at the World Cup in Russia, St. Petersburg's volunteer training center head Georgi Borisov said Tuesday.
“The oldest volunteer is 83 years old. It is a woman who used to work in public administration and is now retired,” Borisov said.
He added that the training center had received over 6,000 applications and 2,300 volunteers, including foreigners, were currently working at the World Cup events and matches in St. Petersburg.
“We received 173 applications from Chinese volunteers, 43 from Kazakhstan, 27 from Spain and 18 from France... A lot of fans are coming here and our staff of 2,300 people give them a warm welcome,” Borisov said.
