South Korea head coach Shin Tae-yong said on Tuesday that he hoped Russia would emulate the Asian team's success at their home FIFA World Cup.
South Korea co-hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup with Japan where they reached the semi-finals for the first time, led by head coach Guus Hiddink.
"I hope that football will develop and progress in Russia. And I hope that Russia have good results, just as Korea did, and they become a very happy host country," Shin told journalists.
Russia finished second in Group A after suffering their first World Cup defeat at the hands of Uruguay 3-0 on Monday and will face Group B winners Spain in their round of 16 match on Sunday.
