MOSCOW, July 13 (Sputnik) - US actor and singer Will Smith said on Friday that Croatia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic's save in the penalty shootout of their quarter-final match against Russia was the most memorable moment of the FIFA World Cup for him.
Hosts Russia lost 4-3 on penalties to Croatia after the match ended 2-2 following extra time. Shortly before the end of regulation, Subasic suffered a hamstring injury but played on to save Russia's first spot-kick in the penalty shootout.
"What was really memorable for me, the Croatia-Russia [match]. Because the Croatian goalie had injured his hamstring. So when it comes down to the final shootout, I'm like 'There's no way! His hamstring is injured' and when he blocked it... I was like 'Oh, that's so amazing!'... He had gone past the shot and reached back to stop the shot, so that moment was really powerful for me," Smith told journalists.
Smith, alongside his fellow US singer Nicky Jam and Albanian singer Era Istrefi, will perform the official song of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, titled Live It Up, at the tournament's closing ceremony, which will kick off half an hour before the final.
Sunday's final will see France take on Croatia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
