The 100m world record legend was met by chaotic scenes in Sydney Airport with fans and media all clamouring to catch a glimpse of Bolt.

Mariners chief executive Shaun Mielekamp steered him through the pressing crowds in the airport arrivals hall as he stopped to sign autographs and pose for selfies.

Bolt is on indefinite trial for the Mariners as he tries to prove himself worth a professional contract from the Central Coast side.

Although an athletics hero to millions around the world, the Jamaican giant's unfulfilled wish is to land a pro football deal.

He has played in celebrity sides in the past and trained with other clubs around the world.

But the latest stint at Gosford has put him within touching distance of achieving his dream.

"I’ve said all along this is for real and I’m here to show what I can do,” said Bolt upon landing.

“I know what I’m capable of and I know what I can do, so this is the opportunity.”

Bolt will meet his potential new team-mates at training for the first time on Tuesday when the world will get their first sight of what he's actually capable of on the field...beyond running.
