“This was one of the worst hit areas. They probably won’t be able to get into work today.”

Up to 6,000 people had to evacuate their homes in the region over the weekend with a reported nine people dying as a result of the wild weather.

Coonan added that some scenes on the Coast were like Hurricane Katrina. “It was like the SuperDome in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina,” he says of the Doyleson. RSL across the road from his home which he says was packed with people who had been evacuated and needed assistance.

"I was lucky, I had electricity for the most part of the weekend."

Today’s Mariners training session was relocated from Bluetongue stadium to nearby Jubilee Oval which was considered drier than the club’s home ground in Gosford.

Up the F3 freeway and Newcastle Jets were also training today with their media managers telling us they had not heard of any problems with Jets players’ houses over the weekend, “but that doesn’t mean there were no players involved in the evacuations. We’ll find out later today.”
