Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete has urged the media and fans to be patient with new coach Cesare Prandelli.
The Azzurri began their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign on Friday with a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Estonia.
The result marked Prandelli's first win since replacing coach Marcello Lippi after the World Cup.
"We are all trying to bounce back together from the big disappointment of the World Cup in South Africa," said Abete to Radio RAI.
"This is a different national team and we have to give Prandelli time to work in peace with the youngsters."
Italy were desperate to banish memories of their nightmare World Cup which saw the Azzurri knocked out of the competition in South Africa after finishing bottom of their group with two points.
Prandelli's task is to complete the rebuilding of a new-look Italy side in time to qualify for Euro 2012.
"The important thing is that everyone works for the team," said Abete.
"We knew even before the World Cup that we needed an almost complete renovation (of the team) and we know how difficult it is to get results when you make changes.
"We have to be close to the national team.
"I think the players did well in Estonia."
The Azzurri host the Faroe Islands in tomorrow's Euro 2012 qualifier in Florence.
