Urawa Reds 2 Al Qadisiya 0 (Urawa Reds win 4-3 on aggregate)
Urawa Reds booked their place in the Asian Champions League semi-finals after seeing off Kuwaiti side Al Qadisiya on Wednesday.
Takahito Soma opened the scoring after half an hour with a spectacular strike and Marcus Tulio Tanaka notched the second shortly after half-time to give Gert Engels' side a 4-3 aggregate, turning around the 3-2 away loss last week.
The Reds will face J. League rivals Gamba Osaka in the last four.
The hosts should have taken an early lead at the Saitama Stadium but Edmilson's shot crashed back off the crossbar in the ninth minute.
At the other end, Bader Al Mutwa had two good chances to break the deadlock. His 14th-minute strike was well blocked by Yuki Abe and almost immediately after he raced clear of Urawa's defence, only to shoot straight at goalkeeper Ryota Tsuzuki from a one-on-one.
They were given a lesson in finishing in the 31st minute when Soma struck a sweet left-footed volley into the net after Robson Ponte's corner was diverted to him on the edge of the box.
Al Qadisiya responded with Selim Benachour's shot which whistled past the far post, but the size of their task increased when Tulio skilfully controlled Ponte's free-kick in the box and lashed a shot high into the far corner.
Needing two goals to avoid elimination, Al Qadisiya ploughed forward but their efforts proved fruitless and Hussein Ali's dismissal late for a second yellow card rubbed salt into the wounds.
