Al Kuwait climbed to second spot in Asian Champions League Group B on Wednesday after coming from behind to clinch their first victory of the competition with a 2-1 win against Al Wasl.
Essa Ali gave the visitors the lead from the penalty spot after four minutes but the Kuwaiti champions turned the match on its head with goals from Khaled Ajab and Abdul Rahman Al Awadhi before half-time.
The match could hardly have got off to a worse start for the hosts, with Hussain Al Shammari fouling Andre Dias in the early stages and Ali making no mistake from 12 yards.
The lead lasted only six minutes, though, before Ajab's blast found the net via a deflection off defender Yaser Salem.
Three minutes before half-time, the comeback was complete when Al Awadhi converted Jarrah Al Ataiqi's right-wing cross.
Al Wasl looked for the equaliser in the second half but could not find a way through, with Al Kuwait threatening to add a third on the counter-attack.
Ajab had an effort disallowed for handball 19 minutes from time, and then Norberto Mauro's strike was also ruled out for offside but the hosts had already done enough to secure the points.
