The 31-year-old pulled off a number of good saves to keep Al Kuwait at bay as they piled on the pressure in the closing stages of the game.

Al Quwa Al Jawiya coach Hamid Salman made no changes to the squad that defeated United Arab Emirates League champions Al Wasl 1-0 last week and the point saw his side move four points clear at the top of the group.

Al Kuwait, meanwhile, recorded a second consecutive draw.

Al Quwa Al Jawiya started the better and should have taken the lead after 16 minutes as Ali Alwan, who scored the winner against Al Wasl, sent an effort flashing wide.

Al Kuwait began to get into the game and should have taken the lead just after the half-hour mark as Khaled Ajab latched onto Walied Ali's neat pass but smashed his shot against the crossbar.

They almost took the lead four minutes after the restart as Fahad Awad crossed to Mauro Maurito whose header flew just past the left upright.

Al Quwa Al Jawiya's best chance came on the hour mark but Al Kuwait goalkeeper Khaled Al Fadhli reacted well to push away Haitham Kadhim's powerful long-range free-kick.

Al Kuwait upped the pressure on their opponents but failed to create any clear opportunities although the Kuwait League champions were guilty of missing two golden chances late on.

First Walied Ali saw his powerful drive fly past the left post with 10 minutes to go and minutes later Ziad Jaziri had his effort from just outside the area saved.

Al Kuwait almost snatched a winner right at the death, Andre Macanga's powerful free-kick bouncing off the wall to Walied Ali, but Kadhim was once again on hand to keep out his close-range effort.
