Beijing Guoan battled back from a goal down to defeat Vietnamese side Nam Dinh 3-1 in their Asian Champions League Group F opener on Wednesday.
Le Van Duyet put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute with a superb volley which crashed off the underside of the crossbar before bouncing over the line.
Yan Xiangchuang equalised in the second half and Du Wenhui put the visitors ahead three minutes later, before Zhang Shuai put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time.
Having gone a goal down, Beijing could have grabbed a quick equaliser but Zhang Shuai's header from a Tao Wei cross rattled the crossbar.
Nam Dinh's Emmanuel Onyeji headed just over the bar as the hosts looked to add a vital second but Beijing wasted several opportunites to draw level.
After the break Beijing seemed to find their rhythm and levelled the scores in the 57th minute when Yan Xiangchuang controlled the ball in the box before slotting home.
Three minutes later they were ahead when Stojan Ignatov sent Du Wenhui clear on goal and he lobbed the ball into the net from the edge of the box.
The hosts did not give in though and could have equalised in the 70th minute when Pham Xuan Phu's cross just evaded Hoang Ngoc Linh.
But their search for an equaliser was dealt a blow with 12 minutes remaining when Onyeji was sent off after picking up his second yellow card.
And in stoppage time, Beijing added insult to injury when Du set up Zhang Shuai to walk the ball into the goal.
