Pichitphong Choeichiu scored an injury-time free-kick for Krung Thai Bank to rescue a point against Vietnamese side Nam Dinh with a 2-2 draw in Group F on Wednesday.
Nam Dinh showed they had put their 9-1 thrashing a fortnight ago behind them when they took the lead in the second minute through Hoang Ngoc Linh but Nantawat Tansopa equalised for Krung with 20 minutes gone.
Ngoc Linh grabbed his second two minutes after half-time and Nam Dinh looked to have won until Pichitphong salvaged a draw.
It was Nam Dinh's first point of the campaign and they remain rooted to the bottom of the table, while Krung have four points.
In the cool, foggy conditions of Hanoi, Ngoc Linh gave the hosts a dream start when he collected a low cross and fired home after 75 seconds.
The visitors' chances to equalise were few and far between but they levelled midway through the first half when Nantawat headed in a deflected corner.
Ngoc Linh fired Nam Dinh ahead shortly after the break when he latched on to Tran Duc Duong's through ball and placed a low shot in at the far post.
That looked enough to give the hosts the points but Pichitphong curled a superb free-kick into the top corner at the death.
