Reigning Liga Indonesia champions Persik Kediri suffered their first home defeat in the league since 2003, going down 1-0 to Persita Tangerang on Saturday.
Persik's unbeaten record at Brawijaya Stadium was brought to an end by Liberian midfielder Esaiah Benson, who silenced the crowd of more than 20,000 by turning in a corner kick in the 40th minute.
Persik coach Daniel Roekito opted to rest prolific Uruguayan striker Christian Gonzalez for Wednesday's AFC Champions League Group E clash against Shanghai Shenhua of China, deploying Indonesia international Budi Sudarsono, normally an attacking midfielder, as a lone striker upfront.
However, the move backfired as Persik were unable to find a response to Benson's goal and dropped one spot to fifth in the Western Conference standings.
PSMS Medan joined Sriwijaya FC Palembang at the top of the Western standings on 20 points after squeezing past visitors Persiraja Banda Aceh 1-0.
Boy Jati Asmara netted the only goal of the match for PSMS in the 64th minute.
Persema moved up from sixth to fourth with a 2-1 win over Pelita Jaya Purwakarta.
Boubacar Keita opened the scoring for Pelita in the 50th minute but central defender Rustanto Sri Wahono levelled in the 62nd minute, and Chilean striker Franco Hita netted the winner seconds before the final whistle.
In the Eastern Conference, PSM Makassar claimed top spot in the standings despite being held 2-2 at home by Persibom Bolaang Mongondow.
PSM had to recover from a two goal deficit in the second half after Sugiatno and Pedro Velazquez put Persibom ahead 2-0 with goals in the 18th and 42nd minutes, respectively.
However, Paraguayan Aldo Barreto pulled a goal back in the 66th minute and Ahmad Amiruddin salvaged a point for PSM with six minutes remaining.
