ADELAIDE United have launched a worldwide hunt for a new head coach after Aurelio Vidmar's move to join the national team set up as Olyroos boss.
Two months away from the start of the new season, Adelaide now need to recruit a coach to recover their A-League form after finishing in the wooden spoon slot last season.
Vidmar's assistant Phil Stubbins has been appointed interim head coach while the search for Vidmar's replacement goes on.
And Reds CEO Sam Ciccarello appeared to dismiss suggestions Perth Glory boss Dave Mitchell may be next in line for the Adelaide hot seat.
He said the club would now be searching overseas as well as at home to find the best man for the job.
"We have commenced our search for a new coach," Ciccarello said today. "it will be a worldwide search and we expecting significant interest in the position.
"In the interim Phil Stubbins has been appointed as head coach, and he will take over the reins upon his return from holidays."
Vidmar said he was delighted to be taking the new role which will also combine the post of assistant coach to whoever the new Socceroos head coach will be following Pim Verbeek's post-World Cup departure.
He effectively takes up the new role immediately, flying out to South Africa next week to provide the current coaching staff extra intelligence on their World Cup group stage rivals.
"It took me about a week to weigh up the pros and cons, but I thought the time was right, as the opportunity may never come again," said Vidmar.
"I made the decision last Wednesday morning. I will be leaving on Tuesday for South Africa, Han Berger and Kelly Cross have put together some activities for me to fulfil while I'm there."
