Perth Glory deserved the win, showing what an organised team can achieve through discipline and quality players. Liam Reddy signposted so before the match: “All the boys looking sharp and looking to pick up three points”
Scott Galloway and Ryan Kitto gave Adelaide United good width and enterprise when going forward, but the class and sharpness as Liam Reddy stated, players like Chris Ikonomidis and Neil Kilkenny, made the difference for the visitors in the first-half.
Good ball control, brilliant awareness and perfectly weighted range of passes. Both sides showed good energy and pace but it was Perth Glory from a Diego Gastro shot in 35th minute that separated the two sides at half-time.
Contrast to the first-half, Adelaide looked out of ideas in the second: passes weren’t reaching their target, distribution overhit and the most dependable player - Isaias - suffered more than one wayward pass.
The clincher was one such mistake, Andy Keogh picked it up, ran into the penalty area and coolly slotted the ball past Paul Izzo to give Perth Glory a 2-0 win at Hindmarsh Stadium.
ADELAIDE UNITED
Paul Izzo – 7.5
Quality save early on. Couple of poor clearances. Brilliant one-handed save late on in the first half. Couldn’t do anything about Perth's two goals.
Strong save from his near post towards the dying minutes. Brilliant save to deny Keogh another goal in the 90th minute, getting down low to his right.
Scott Galloway – 7.5
Lost the ball in the penalty area. Penetrating run down the left-hand side, solid defensive headers. Fantastic strike from his left foot 20 yards out. Solid defending in the second-half. Honest performance in a team that looked disjointed.
Michael Jakobsen – 7
Decent performance, look tired through the second half.
Michael Marrone – 7.5
Reading the play in defence. Intercepting the through balls brilliantly. Best defending from Adelaide tonight.
Ryan Strain – 6.5
Decent effort on goal but needed to put more on his header. Tried to get forward in the first half but was quiet in the second.
