Socceroo icon John Aloisi has said he wants to return from Europe to play in the A-League...but not with Adelaide United after the way they treated his brother Ross.
Aloisi’s contract with Spanish club Alaves ends at the end of the season and he had been widely tipped to return to his hometown as a stunning star striker for Adelaide.
But the club axed former skipper Ross Aloisi this month in an ugly dismissal that claimed he had quit the game entirely with a year still left on his contract.
Ross immediately he insisted he hadn’t retired at all and was still hopeful of joining a club to continue his career in the A-League.
Now brother John has ruled out playing with United after the debacle.
“Looking at it - it will be very difficult for me to come back soon after what did happen,” he told the Adelaide Advertiser.
“In a few years time it could turn around and I could be in Adelaide United colours. At the moment it would be pretty difficult.”
Aloisi said he has snubbed the club after destroying his dream playing alongside his brother for their hometown side.
“At the moment it's changed a little bit. The drawcard for me coming back was to play with my brother which has always been a dream - to play for Adelaide United with my brother and my home town in front of my family and friends.
“It's disappointing because that's never going to happen. But we're not going to turn against them because we love the state.”
Aloisi revealed former club chief executive Michael Petrillo and ex-United manager John Kosmina had approached him about a possible move before the World Cup last year.
But he hasn't heard from anyone at the club since they gave Ross the boot following the fallout from their grand final defeat against Melbourne Victory.
He hinted that he was desperate to return home to Adelaide with his expanding family – and that he would have been delighted to play for the club before Ross’s dismissal.
But not any more.
“I told them last year I had a year left under my contract,” he said. ”And in a year's time I would be a free (player) and then get back to me.
“Since then I haven't heard anything. I don't know if they wanted me or not.
“I just had a third baby (Amaya) the other day and you know - having three running around - it's not too bad to be back in Adelaide...”
