The 26-year-old returned to his homeland in December to build up his fitness and attend to personal issues after the death of his father.

Adriano's time in Brazil has not been without controversy, most notably when he head-butted Santos full-back Domingos. The striker received an 18-month ban over the incident that was later reduced to two games.

Recent form has been much more encouraging, however, and Adriano has been named in the Brazil squad for World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Argentina next month.

However, the striker insists that acceptance in Italy is his main target for the future.

He told O Globo television: "I have heard quite a lot of nonsense. I have read a lot of things about myself. People talk about me and they do not know me.

"I have experienced a lot of negative things in the past two years because of my father's death and I do not want to go back those days. It was bad.

"My mother asked me to return to Brazil. I did it.

"I am getting my shape and I will return to Inter to shut all these people's mouths."
