Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has reiterated his wish to keep Adriano despite rumours the Brazilian striker could leave the club.
Adriano, who is sidelined with a thigh injury, has been linked with a move to Chelsea in the winter transfer market.
"Our intention is certainly to keep him (Adriano) because he has great potential," said Moratti.
"But at the same time we also understand he has a great weight on his shoulders.
"Whatever he does or doesn't do he always ends up in the newspapers.
"It depends on him; if he is able to overcome this situation then we can also find a way to deal with this."
Inter had to issue a statement last week denying reports that Adriano had turned up to training under the influence of alcohol.
The 26-year-old did have personal issues last year and was sent on loan to Brazilian club Sao Paulo before returning to Inter in the summer.
Inter coach Jose Mourinho recently advised Adriano to consider his future due to the pressure he is under at the Milan outfit.
Moratti defended Mourinho's comments.
"One should consider Mourinho's remarks intelligent and fair," he said.
"Above all, it shows a great affection for the person."
Brazilian giants Flamengo later insisted they would attempt to sign Adriano for next year.
According to Terra.com.br, Flamengo vice-president of football Kleber Leite said that the contract with the player's agent Gilmar Rinaldi has been written and only the signature is missing: "The matters involving Flamengo have already been made."
Leite does not fear a negative answer from Inter, adding cryptically: "A scared person does not go out of his house even to have an ice cream. This is the natural process things have so we should not fear a negative result."
