Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti believes striker Adriano has done the right thing in taking a break from football.
The 27-year-old failed to return from international duty in Brazil last week and was later found at his mother's house in Rio de Janeiro.
On Thursday he announced he plans to take a sabbatical from the game, citing stress from the pressures at Inter, and admitted he does not know when he will return.
Moratti said: "I am not shocked. I'm sorry that he is in this situation.
"I am sincerely saddened that he is struggling but I am also in agreement that it is the best solution for him.
"With regards to the rest, we shall see. I have not spoken to him, the important thing is that he is well."
Adriano is under contract until June 2010. He played most of last season on loan at Sao Paulo, acknowledging he was going through a difficult time.
He returned to Inter last summer and has scored three goals in 12 league appearances for the Serie A leaders.
