Agostino, Adelaide United's marquee player, was tight lipped about his new direction other than to say it involved a lot of travel and that he'd continue to live in Adelaide.

"I'll certainly stay involved in the game. But at a later date Adelaide will announce what I'll be officially doing," he told au.fourfourtwo.com after the grand final.

"I won't be going back to Germany but I'll be doing a lot of traveling to Europe and back but I'll be based in Adelaide."

The former Socceroo striker has being linked in the past with a return to his former Bundesliga club 1860 Munich in the role of technical director.

However, this new job could be as a player agent or even a club ambassador. "In the next few weeks I'll announce it officially," he added.

As for Saturday's grand final, Agostino said the Reds' game plan took Victory by surprise in the 1-0 win to Melbourne.

"I'm sad and gutted more so because of the way we went about our business," he said. "We had the right game plan and I think they [Melbourne Victory] were a bit surprised how we set up our stall.

"They were at sixes and sevens and started to get frustrated."

He added: "I don't want to whinge about decisions but the send off really did make an impact.

"We actually saw it and thought it was a bit harsh that he'd get a yellow. We all just turned away to get on with our business and he's pulled out a red.

"Even after that we looked really good."

Newly called up Socceroo Fab Barbiero agreed that the send off was harsh.

"In a game like that a yellow would've been nice. It would've been exciting for the crowd [to have] 11 v 11," the Reds midfielder told au.fourfourtwo.com.

Agostino added that despite the loss, it's been a successful season for United and on another day, they may have beaten their arch-rivals.

"We defended tremendously [in the grand final] and that was our strength all throughout the season," he said. "So if there was to be a day that we'd beat Melbourne, it would've been this day. Even in the second half we had our chances.

"It's very disappointing but we'll take a lot of positives out of it. We're in the [AFC] Champions League again, so I guess you can call it a successful season."
