The result means Al Gharafa must win all five of their remaining games while All Sadd need just one point from their six remaining games. They can be crowned champions when they play Qatar SC on Friday.

Iraqi striker Younis Mahmoud gave Al Gharafa a 16th minute lead with his 17th goal of the season, a strike that takes him to the top of the scoring charts, one ahead of Al Sadd's Brazilian Mauricio Emerson.

However, Younis and Al Gharafa's joy lasted for only one minute as Al Wakra equalised through Mergani Al Zain.

In Thursday's other match, Al Khor were held to a 1-1 draw by Al Shamal.

Al Shamal opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a goal from Omani striker Ismail Al Ajmi, who scored his fourth goal in the last three games.

However, Al Khor soon equalised as Brazilian Rodrigo scored his eighth goal of the season to earn a share of the spoils.
