Spanish centreback Alan Baro has been named Central Coast Mariners captain for the 2017/18 A-League season.
The 32-year-old joined Central Coast from Melbourne Victory, after a successful season that saw the club narrowly lose the 2017 A-League Grand Final on penalties.
Baro brings a wealth of European experience to Paul Okon's side, having spent six seasons as a regular starter in Spain’s Segunda Division. He’ll line up with fellow new signing Antony Golec in the heart of defence, with promising youngster Jake McGing as back up.

After three successive seasons outside the A-League finals, the recognition of Baro’s defensive importance is a sign that the Mariners aren’t just looking to field an attacking young team.
Baro is one of four experienced foreigners Okon's signed to reinforce Central Coast's spine, and after an impressive 2-0 friendly win against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park, there may be more surprises in store for Mariners’ fans this season.
Central Coast kick off their campaign with the F3 Derby against Newcastle Jets on October 7.
