BURTON Albion missed the chance to secure promotion to the Football League after they were beaten 1-0 by Oxford.
Roy McFarland's side only needed a point to be crowned champions but Adam Chapman's second-half free-kick put Oxford in front and they held on despite having Chris Wilmott sent off with 10 minutes remaining.
The Brewers' misery was compounded in injury time when substitute Shaun Harrad also saw red for going in late on Oxford goalkeeper Billy Turley.
