Rosenberg won the first leg of their third qualifying round 3-1 at home and is one step closer to entering the group stage.

Gersbach was an unused substitute in the first leg win over the Cypriot Champions but got a taste of Europe’s elite club competition in the previous second round against Swedish side Norrköping.

“It was nice coming on in the Champions league qualifier,” he said. “But obviously I’d like to be starting and playing the whole game,.

“I just have to be patient and work my way into the team, but yeah it’s been good to be involved in the Champions league and hopefully we can impress and maybe even make the group stage.

“The game I played in was at home so it wasn’t so much different to a normal league game. The crowd was good and they were loud as usual.

“We played in Sweden the week after and their fans were pretty impressive to be honest and it was good to be involved. I didn’t come on in that game but hopefully against Apoel I can get some minutes.”

While progressing in the competition with his club side is the main focus, Gersbach revealed his five-minute Champions league cameo was a dream fulfilled.

“Yeah of course,” he said. “But it’s more important that we progress through the qualifiers and maybe even get a chance to play in the group stage and to play in the Champions League, that would be something pretty special.”
