UAE stunned Japan 2-1 in Saitama on Thursday night to send shockwaves through Group B where Australia started with a routine 2-0 win over Iraq.

The Socceroos defeated UAE 2-0 in their most recent meeting at the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia, but were held to goalless draws in previous clashes in the Middle East.

Despite that, Postecoglou said victory was the clear aim from the qualifier to be played in warm heat in Abu Dhabi.

“We will not be satisfied with any result except victory tomorrow,” Postecoglou said.

“We didn’t come to the UAE to get a point because we are the champions of Asia and we look forward to getting a good victory from the match.

“We will try our best to take advantage of the weaknesses of our opponents in order to win while at the same time we will focus on our strong points.

“I expect a tough match between the two teams and a draw will not be good for us although we respect our opponents.”

The Australia coach also brushed off concerns about the warm conditions in Abu Dhabi and the effect it would have on his side’s brand.

"There's no one better in the world than Aussies in dealing with this," he said.

"If we do anything that adjusts we might as well play their game and they're better at their game than we are.

"The conditions take care of tempo. There's certain limits the human body can go to.

"We're going to try and make it uncomfortable for them. The way we make it uncomfortable is to make sure we have more possession, we play in their half, we try and dominate, we get open as much as possible."

Socceroos midfielder Aaron Mooy echoed his coach’s sentiments.

“The expectation is to win,” Mooy said.

“That’s what we all want to do and hopefully play a nice style of football like we always do and get the result.”
