MELBOURNE Victory striker Archie Thompson has slammed the Etihad Stadium surface as a 'cow paddock' unworthy of hosting the looming Grand Final.
The state of the pitch was a talking point for both camps after last night's Asian Champions League clash although Victory refused to use it as an excuse for defeat.
"It was basically a cow paddock," Thompson told AAP reporters. "But for a grand final you can't have a pitch like that. I'd rather play it at (local Melbourne club) Green Gully's pitch than play on something like that. It was terrible.
"I don't know what they're going to do for the Grand Final."
Thompson joked that he might have to take drastic action if nothing was done.
"I'll even go out and cut people's lawn out of their yards if I see some patches that are better than that," he added.
"The pitch was probably the worst I've ever seen it."
The striker did acknowledge that both teams had had to play on the surface and that Seongnam Ilhwa had taken their chances where Victory had not.
