ARCHIE Thompson is being tipped to land the A-League's golden boot this time out with Robbie Fowler some way down the pecking order.
The Melbourne Victory striker is on offer at $7 with TABSportsbet while last year's winner Shane Smeltz is close behind at $8. The third contender in the bookmakers eyes is Thompson's Victory teammate Danny Allsopp.
The same organisation is confident that Sydney FC's marquee striker John Aloisi won't endure the nightmare that ruined his first season at Moore Park, the Socceroo forward also on offer alongside Allsopp at $9.
While Fowler's arrival at North Queensland Fury has generated plenty of publicity, the former Liverpool striker has yet to kick a ball and finds himself currently priced at $17 to finish as the A-League's top scorer in his inaugural campaign.
Ahead of him in the betting are the likes of Mile Sterjovski and Alex Brosque (both $15) with Brisbane Roar's Sergio Van Dijk at $13.
Fowler finds himself on offer at the same price as Sydney FC's Mark Bridge and Brisbane's Reinaldo.
As for other new faces in the competition Jason Culina is on offer at $34 as is Adelaide United new boy Lloyd Owusu.
Wellington Phoenix recruit Chris Greenacre is on offer at $67.
TABSportsbet spokesman Glenn Munsie told au.fourfourtwo.com: "Football (betting) just continues to get bigger every year.
"We've got two new teams this time and then obviously the interest for the World Cup next year is going to be massive."
One of TABSportsbet's competititors, CentreBet is currently offering $2.50 on Robbie Fowler to score on his Fury debut with $1.44 for the former Liverpool man to endure a blank first outing.
