ARCHIE Thompson faces a nervous wait with the extent of his knee injury suffered in the Socceroos 0-0 draw with China to be determined in the next 48 hours.
Thompson left the field after just eight minutes in Kunming following a foul by Feng Xiaoting which left him with a medial collateral ligament injury.
He is expected to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks which would rule him out of Victory's home and away AFC Champions League 2008 matches against Japan's Gamba Osaka at Telstra Dome on April 9 and the rematch a fortnight later in Japan.
However, the club will await its own medical assessment after Thompson returns to Melbourne on Thursday.
It was a particularly disappointing early exit for Thompson who was given a rare chance up front for the Socceroos in the absence of Scott McDonald, John Aloisi and Josh Kennedy.
