ARCHIE Thompson could yet make his return from injury against Gold Coast United this weekend with Matthew Kemp also tantalisingly close to pulling on his boots
Thompson hasn't featured since injuring his knee in the grand final defeat to Sydney FC but is now back in training with his Melbourne Victory teammates.
Coach Ernie Merrick is likely to make a decision based on how Thompson pulls up in today's training session.
"I think it will be pretty close," Merrick told the Herald Sun.
"We may have to wait and see how he backs up after a hard session (he had on Tuesday). We'll get a good idea today and tomorrow. Having Archie back will be first-class, but we won't push him."
As for Kemp, he may be handed a chance to ease himself back into action with the club's National Youth League side against Central Coast Mariners this weekend.
