Mitch Langerak kept a clean-sheet for German giants Borussia Dortmund, Mathew Leckie continued his fine form for FSV Frankfurt, while Dylan McGowan & Massimo Luongo played key roles in their sides victories.

In the German Bundesliga, Mitch Langerak kept a clean-sheet as Borussia Dortmund thumped FC Augsburg 4-0. Langerak made a great save in the first half from Raphael Holzhauser’s shot with Dortmund holding a slender 1-0 lead. Langerak now has the remarkable record of 11 wins from 11 appearances for Dortmund.

Elsewhere, Robbie Kruse was an unused substitute as Bayer Leverkusen beat SC Freiburg 3-1, while Nikita Rukavytsya was also absent as FSV Mainz beat VfB Stuttgart 3-2.  

In the German Second Division, Mathew Leckie continued his good form with an assist as FSV Frankfurt beat VfL Bochum 1-0. Leckie went close to scoring in the opening 5 minutes, steering Denis Epstein’s cross just past the post before Leckie returned the favour with a neat pass to Epstein who finished with aplomb past Bochum ‘keeper Andreas Luthe.

Elsewhere, Ben Halloran was absent from the match-day squad as Fortuna Dusseldorf lost 2-1 to 1860 Munich.

In the German Third Division, Mustafa Amini made his first appearance in the match-day squad for the season but could only watch on from the bench as Borussia Dortmund II beat Unterhaching 4-2.

In the English Championship, Rhys Williams played a full game in defence as Middlesbrough won their first game of the season, beating Charlton 1-0.

Shane Lowry played a full game at left-back as Millwall lost 3-0 to Ipswich Town. Lowry scored an unfortunate own goal just after the hour mark, diverting Aaron Cresswell’s cross past his own ‘keeper. Scott McDonald came on in the 72nd minute but had little impact on the contest.

Elsewhere, Adam Federici was an unused substitute as Reading drew 1-1 with Bolton, while Alex Cisak was an unused substitute as Burnley beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1.

In League One, Massimo Luongo found the back of the net as Swindon Town beat Stevenage 1-0. Luongo scored the game’s only goal on 26 minutes, with his left foot rocket from outside of the box capping off a neat passing move.

James Meredith played a full game at left-back as Bradford’s good start to the season continued with a 4-0 thumping of Carlisle United.

Bailey Wright played a full game in defence as Preston North End played out a 0-0 draw with Rotherham. Wright went close to breaking the deadlock on 54 minutes but his header from Lee Holmes’ corner cannoned back off the crossbar. Shane Cansdell-Sherriff was absent from the match-day squad.

Elsewhere, Neil Kilkenny started but was replaced at half time following a lacklustre first half as Bristol City lost 5-4 to Coventry City, while James Wesolowski was an unused substitute as Oldham Athletic lost 1-0 to Walsall.

In League Two, Aaron Downes played a full game in defence as Torquay drew 1-1 with Morecambe, while Ryan Williams was an unused substitute as Oxford United beat Bury 2-1.

In the Scottish Premier League, Dylan McGowan played a starring role as Hearts produced a stirring performance to beat rivals Hibernian 1-0. McGowan was solid in defence throughout and delivered a gem of a cross on 72 minutes which was headed home by Calum Paterson.

In Ireland, Mark Griffin was an unused substitute as Derry City beat UCD Dublin 3-1.

In the Dutch Eredivisie, Tommy Oar started and played 81 minutes as FC Utrecht fell to a disappointing 2-0 loss to FC Groningen. Michael Zullo was absent from the match-day squad while Adam Sarota remained out with a knee injury.

Elsewhere, Jason Davidson was an unused substitute as Heracles lost 3-1 to PEC Zwolle.

In the Dutch Second Division, Travis Cooper made his first appearance of the season, coming on in the 86th minute as VVV Venlo beat Willem 2-0.

Elsewhere, Andrew Marveggio was absent from the match-day squad as Telstar beat FC Emmen 3-2.

In the Belgian Pro League, Mat Ryan played a full game in goal as Club Brugge drew 1-1 with Zulte Waregem. Ryan had a decent game in goal with the highlight coming in the first half with a superb save to deny Bernard Malanda Adje’s bullet header.

Ryan was also in action in the Europa League Qualifiers on Thursday, playing a full game as Club Brugge were eliminated from the competition following a 4-3 aggregate loss to Polish side Slask Wroclaw.

With his side trialling 2-1 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate, Ryan pulled off a fine save at his near post to deny Sebino Plaku’s powerful strike before the former Mariners ‘keeper’s poor judgement cost his side a goal on 76 minutes, failing to collect the ball after charging off his line allowing Portuguese striker Marco Paixao the simple task of placing the ball into the unguarded net, effectively ending the contest.

Elsewhere, Steven Lustica was absent from the match-day squad as Hajduk Split were also eliminated following a 1-0 loss to FC Dila Gori.  

In Austria, James Holland played a full game in midfield as Austria Wien played out a 0-0 draw with 10-man Rapid Wien.

In Switzerland, Oliver Bozanic played a full game in midfield as FC Luzern drew 1-1 with FC Thun.

In Japan, Josh Kennedy continued his hot form, scoring again for Nagoya Grampus in their 2-0 win over Urawa Red Diamonds. Kennedy scored his side’s second goal on 64 minutes, capitalising on some good work from a team-mate to tap home at the back post.

In South Korea, Alex Wilkinson scored his first goal for Jeonbuk Motors in their 2-2 draw with Ulsan Hyundai. Wilkinson put his side 2-0 up just before half time, heading home Leonardo’s corner after being left unmarked in the box.

Elsewhere, Luke Devere returned to the starting line-up, playing 90 minutes as Gyeongnam lost 3-0 to Suwon Bluewings, while Robbie Cornthwaite was a 73rd minute substitute as Chunnam Dragons drew 1-1 with Daegu FC.

In the Chinese Super League, Eddy Bosnar scored his first goal for Guangzhou R&F in their 3-0 win over Shanghai SIPG. Bosnar opened the scoring on 16 minutes with a bullet free-kick from 25 metres.  Rostyn Griffiths was a 71st minute substitute for Guangzhou.

Daniel McBreen played a full game in attack for Shanghai, while Bernie Ibini started but was replaced after 53 minutes. Ibini had three excellent chances to score in the first half but missed the target from the edge of the box before being foiled in a 1-on-1 by ‘keeper Yuelei Cheng. Ibini then made a hash of a header at the back post after escaping his marker.

Ryan McGowan played a full game in defence as Shandong Luneng came from 2-0 down to beat Shanghai Shenhua 3-2, while Jonas Salley played a full game in defence as Guizhou Renhe beat Jiangsu Sainty 2-0.

Michael Marrone returned to the Shanghai Shenxin starting line-up, playing a full game in their 2-1 loss to Beijing Guoan. 

Finally in the MLS, Tim Cahill remained out with a knee injury as the New York Red Bulls lost 2-0 to Columbus Crew.
