IT WAS a quiet week for our Aussies Abroad following the euphoria of last weekend, with Robbie Kruse returning to the bench for Bayer Leverkusen, while suspension and injuries limited the game-time of several high profile Aussies.
Tim Cahill did provide a rare highlight with an excellent goal in the MLS, while Mat Ryan continued his superb season in Belgium.
In the English Premier League, Mile Jedinak played a full game in midfield as Crystal Palace lost 2-0 to Southampton. Jedinak’s wayward pass led to Pablo Osvaldo’s opener just after half time as Palace’s performance mirrored a side that face an uphill battle to retain their Premier League status.
Elsewhere, Mark Schwarzer was an unused substitute as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Tottenham, while Chris Herd was absent from the match-day squad as Aston Villa produced a stunning 3-2 win over Manchester City.
Brad Jones was an unused substitute as Liverpool beat Sunderland 3-1.
In the English Championship, Scott McDonald was missing with a knee problem as Millwall continued their rise up the table with a 2-0 win over Leeds United. Shane Lowry missed the clash through suspension.
Rhys Williams was missing through suspension as Middlesbrough lost 2-0 to Queens Park Rangers.
Elsewhere, Adam Federici was an unused substitute as Reading beat Birmingham City 2-0, while Alex Cisak was an unused substitute as Burnley beat struggling Charlton Athletic 3-0.
In League One, Bailey Wright played a full game in defence as Preston North End remained in the playoff positions with a 2-1 win over Swindon Town. Massimo Luongo played a full game in midfield for Swindon.
Bradden Inman played a full game as Crewe Alexandra continued their alarming slide down the table with a 3-0 loss to Gillingham.
Elsewhere, James Wesolowski played a full game as Oldham Athletic lost 1-0 to Crawley Town, while James Meredith played a full game as Bradford City beat Shewsbury 1-0. Meredith’s cross in the last minute of play caused chaos in the box with James Hanson prodding home the winner.
Neil Kilkenny was absent from the match-day squad as Bristol City drew 1-1 with Colchester United.
In League Two, Ryan Williams scored his first goal for Oxford United on his starting debut in their 3-1 win over Hartlepool United. Williams, on loan from Fulham, opened the scoring on five minutes with a superb curling strike on his left foot.
Shane Cansdell-Sherriff made his debut for Burton Albion in their 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe United. Cansdell-Sherriff joined Burton midweek on loan from Preston North End and played the full 90 minutes in the clash.
Elsewhere, Aaron Downes was missing with a knee injury as Torquay United lost 2-1 to Newport, while Ben McNamara was an unused substitute as Northampton Town played out a 0-0 draw with Morecambe.
In the Scottish Premier League, Dylan McGowan played a full game in the centre of defence as Hearts drew 0-0 with Dundee United. McGowan looked to have scored the winner late in the first half after tapping home from close range but the goal was disallowed for an earlier foul.
Elsewhere, Tom Rogic was again an unused substitute as Celtic beat Kilmarnock 5-2. Jackson Irvine was ineligible for Kilmarnock due to playing against his parent side.
In the German Bundesliga, Robbie Kruse returned to the bench despite his excellent performance last week as Bayer Leverkusen beat Hannover 96 2-0. Kruse came on in the 83rd minute in the clash and did have a chance to score in the dying moments but his effort on goal missed the target.

In the German Second Division, Mathew Leckie played a full game in attack as FSV Frankfurt played out a 0-0 draw with Fortuna Dusseldorf. Nikita Rukavytsya was an 85th minute substitute in the clash, while Ben Halloran was an unused substitute for Dusseldorf.
In the German Third Division, Mustafa Amini started and played 50 minutes as Borussia Dortmund II lost 3-0 to Stuttgart Kickers.
In the Dutch Eredivisie, Tommy Oar started and played 59 minutes but had little impact as FC Utrecht drew 3-3 with Roda Kerkrade. Adam Sarota missed the clash through injury.
Elsewhere, Jason Davidson played a full game in defence as Heracles beat RKC Waalwijk 4-1, while Eli Babalj was missing through injury as AZ Alkmaar beat PSV Eindhoven 2-1.
In the Dutch Second Division, Travis Cooper was a 68th minute substitute as VVV Venlo drew 1-1 with Fortuna Sittard.
In the Italian Serie A, Carl Valeri was missing through injury as Sassuolo drew 2-2 with Lazio.
In Belgium, Mat Ryan kept a clean sheet as Club Brugge beat RAEC Mons 1-0. Ryan made some crucial saves in the dying moments of the contest to help his side earn three points.
In the Greek Super League, Apostolos Giannou started and played 68 minutes as Panionios lost 2-0 to Olympiakos.
Elsewhere, Dean Bouzanis was an unused substitute as FC Aris played out a 0-0 draw with Panetolikos.
In Switzerland, Dario Vidosic played a full game as FC Sion drew 2-2 with FC Basel. Vidosic was involved in the game’s opener on 3 minutes as his free-kick caused chaos in the box, with Vilmos Vanczak tapping home from close range. Vidosic then nearly scored a superb individual goal in the second half, beating two opponents before seeing his curling effort hit the post.
Elsewhere, Oliver Bozanic played a full game in midfield as FC Luzern drew 1-1 with FC Thun.
In Austria, James Holland played a full game as Austria Wien’s poor form continued, losing 1-0 to Admira.
In the Turkish Second Division, Kerem Bulut played a full game as Karsiyaka played out a 0-0 draw with Kahramanmarasspor.
In Ireland, Mark Griffin was an unused substitute as Derry City lost 2-0 to Bohemian.
In Russia, Luke Wilkshire played a full game at right-back as Dinamo Moscow beat Krylya Sovetov 2-0.
In the American MLS, Tim Cahill found the back of the net for the New York Red Bulls in their 1-1 draw with the Seattle Sounders. Cahill equalised for his side on 76 minutes with a fine curling effort from inside of the box after the ball deflected into his path. David Carney played a full game at left-back in the clash.
In Japan, Lucas Neill played a full game in defence as Omiya Ardija lost 5-2 to FC Tokyo, while Josh Kennedy played a full game in attack as Nagoya Grampus lost 2-1 to Kawasaki Frontale.
In the K-League Classic, Alex Wilkinson played a full game in defence as Jeonbuk Motors played out a 0-0 draw with Suwon Bluewings.
Luke Devere was absent as Gyeongnam lost 2-1 to Seongnam, while Brendan Hamill was absent from the match-day squad as Gangwon FC beat Daejeon Citizen 3-1. Hamill hasn’t seen any game time since October last year.

In the Chinese Super League, Daniel McBreen starred with 2 assists as Shanghai SIPG thumped Qingdao Jonoon 6-1. In the opening minute, McBreen flicked on a header into the path of Zhu Zhengrong who opened the scoring. McBreen was again provider just 10 minutes later, slipping a pass to Wu Lei who scored the first goal of his hat-trick. Bernie Ibini missed the clash for Shanghai, while Joel Griffiths was absent for Qingdao.
Ryan McGowan played a full game in defence as Shandong Luneng confirmed their spot in next season’s Asian Champions League with a 3-0 win over Wuhan Zall.
Erik Paartalu played a full game in midfield as Tianjin Teda beat Guizhou Renhe 1-0. Jonas Salley played a full game for Guizhou.
Daniel Mullen played a full game in defence as Dalian Aerbin drew 2-2 with Guangzhou R&F. Eddy Bosnar played a full game in defence for Guangzhou, while Rostyn Griffiths was absent from the Guangzhou match-day squad. Bosnar nearly scored in the first half with one of his trademark long range free kicks but the Dalian keeper was able to repel the shot.
Elsewhere, Michael Marrone played a full game as Shanghai Shenxin failed to ease their relegation worries with a 1-0 loss to fellow battlers Changchun Yatai.
In the Chinese Second Division, Adam Hughes played a full game as Harbin Yiteng remained on track for promotion with a 1-0 win over Guizhou Zhicheng.
In the UAE Pro League, Brett Holman played a full game as Al Nasr lost 2-0 to Al Ahli. Holman had a great opportunity to score in the dying moments but couldn’t beat Al Ahli goalkeeper Saif Yousef.
Alex Brosque was a 66th minute substitute as Al Ain continued their scratchy start to the season with a 4-3 loss to Al Dhafra. Brosque was involved in his side’s equaliser on 76 minutes, flicking on Omar Abdulrahman’s corner at the front post which found its way through to Asamoah Gyan who stabbed home from close range.
Milan Susak played a full game in defence as Al Wasl beat Al Shaab 4-1. Billy Celeski missed the clash through injury.
In the Qatar Stars League, Sasa Ognenovski returned from suspension, playing a full game in defence as Umm Salal lost 2-1 to Al Wakra.
Elsewhere, Mark Bresciano was absent from the match-day squad as Al Gharafa drew 1-1 with Sailiya.
In Iran, Iain Fyfe played a full game in defence as Mes Kerman remained bottom with a 2-1 loss to Gostaresh Foolad.
In India, former Newcastle Jets striker Sean Rooney found the back of the net for Bengalura in their 3-0 win over Rangdajied United.
