Mile Jedinak impressed against Arsenal, Robbie Kruse set up the winner for Bayer Leverkusen and Brett Holman starred in the UAE, while Tim Cahill won his first trophy in the MLS. The news wasn’t as good for Tom Rogic who continues to be frozen out at Celtic.

In the English Premier League, Mile Jedinak played a full game in midfield as Crystal Palace lost 2-0 to Arsenal. Jedinak was impressive throughout the contest in his customary defensive midfield role, keeping the dangerous Arsenal strike-force in check for prolonged periods of the game. Jedinak did show one moment of attacking quality with a stunning volley from a cleared corner which brought out a world class save from Wojciech Szczesny.

Mark Schwarzer was an unused substitute as Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-1.

Elsewhere, Brad Jones was an unused substitute as Liverpool beat West Bromwich Albion 4-1, while Chris Herd was absent from the match-day squad as Aston Villa lost 2-0 to Everton. 

In the English Championship, Rhys Williams played a full game at right-back as Middlesbrough thumped Doncaster 4-0. Williams had a largely comfortable day in defence but almost scored a calamitous own goal, slicing his clearance from Mark Duffy’s free-kick just wide of the goal.

Scott McDonald played a full game in attack as Millwall drew 1-1 with Reading. McDonald went close to scoring early in the second half but saw his drive well saved by fellow Aussie Adam Federici, before McDonald won a stoppage time penalty after Federici fouled him in the box, with Liam Trotter tucking away the resulting penalty.

Elsewhere, Alex Cisak was an unused substitute as Burnley strengthened their grip on top spot with a 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.

In League One, Bailey Wright played a full game in defence as Preston North End beat Notts County 1-0.

James Wesolowski played a full game in midfield as Oldham Athletic beat Swindon Town 2-1. Massimo Luongo played a full game in midfield for Swindon.

Bradden Inman returned from illness, starting and playing 73 minutes as Crewe Alexandra lost 3-1 to Sheffield United.

Elsewhere, James Meredith played a full game at left-back as Bradford City lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton, while Neil Kilkenny was absent from the match-day squad as Bristol City beat Carlisle United 4-2.

In League Two, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff played a full game in defence as Burton Albion beat Exeter City 1-0.

Ryan Williams started and played 61 minutes as Oxford United beat AFC Wimbledon 2-0. Williams was very impressive throughout his shift with his pace and direct dribbling causing the Wimbledon defence plenty of trouble.

Elsewhere, Ben McNamara was an unused substitute as Northampton Town drew 1-1 with Cheltenham Town, while Aaron Downes was absent through injury as Torquay United drew 1-1 with Portsmouth.  

In the Scottish Premier League, Jackson Irvine played a full game as Kilmarnock beat Hearts 2-0. Dylan McGowan was an unused substitute for Hearts.

Elsewhere, Tom Rogic was again an unused substitute as Celtic beat Partick Thistle 2-1.

In Ireland, Mark Griffin was a 75th minute substitute as Derry City hammered Limerick 6-0. 

In the German Bundesliga, Robbie Kruse played a key role for Bayer Leverkusen in their 2-1 win over FC Augsburg. Kruse, who was introduced on 81 minutes, set up Emre Can for the winner just moments later with his precise cross nodded home by the Turkish midfielder from close range.

Elsewhere, Mitch Langerak was an unused substitute as Borussia Dortmund beat Schalke 3-1.

In the German Second Division, Mathew Leckie played a full game in attack as FSV Frankfurt played out a 0-0 draw with VfR Aalen. Nikita Rukavytsya was a 67th minute substitute in the contest.

In the German Third Division, Mustafa Amini played a full game in midfield as 10-man Borussia Dortmund II beat Wacker Burghausen. Amini impressed in his shift and set up Bulgarian Edison Jordanov for Dortmund II’s opener on 20 minutes.

In the Dutch Eredivisie, Jason Davidson played a full game at left-back as Heracles secured a historic 2-1 win over Feyenoord. The win was Heracles’ first over Feyenoord in their history.

Tommy Oar was absent with a back problem as FC Utrecht lost 3-1 to SC Cambuur. Adam Sarota missed the clash with a knee injury.

In the Italian Serie A, Carl Valeri remained out with an ankle injury as Sassuolo drew 0-0 with Catania.

In Belgium, Mat Ryan played a full game in goal as Club Brugge lost 2-0 at home to Genk. Ryan would have been disappointed to concede the first goal on 42 minutes, with his parry from Anele Ngcongca’s drive from distance failing to clear the six yard box leaving a simple tap in for Jelle Vossen.

In Switzerland, Dario Vidosic played a full game in midfield as FC Sion beat Grasshoppers 2-0. Vidosic was a constant threat throughout and nearly found the back of the net in the second half, only to see his header well saved by Grasshoppers ‘keeper Roman Burki.

Elsewhere, Oliver Bozanic started and played 71 minutes as FC Luzern beat Lausanne-Sport 1-0.

In Austria, James Holland played a full game in midfield as Austria Wien’s disappointing season continued, losing 1-0 to rivals Rapid Wien. 

In Russia, Luke Wilkshire was an 81st minute substitute as Dinamo Moscow lost 2-1 to Amkar Perm.

In Greece, Apostolos Giannou was a half time substitute as Panionios beat Apollon 2-1.

In the American MLS, Tim Cahill started and played 87 minutes as the New York Red Bulls were crowned champions following a 5-2 thumping of Chicago Fire. Cahill appeared to find the back of the net just after half time after a goalmouth scramble but the goal was officially credited to Ibrahim Sekagya. David Carney played a full game at left-back for the Red Bulls and began a neat passing move for his side’s first goal on 24 minutes which culminated in a stunning goal from Thierry Henry.   

In Japan, Josh Kennedy played a full game in attack as Nagoya Grampus beat Omiya Ardija 2-1. Lucas Neill started from the bench and was introduced on 64 minutes with his side leading 1-0, only for Nagoya to score twice in the final 25 minutes to seal the win.  

In South Korea, Robbie Cornthwaite was a half-time substitute as Chunnam Dragons lost 2-1 to Gangwon FC. Brendan Hamill was absent from the Gangwon match-day squad.

Luke Devere was an unused substitute as Gyeongnam lost 2-1 to Jeju United. Adrian Madaschi was absent from the Jeju match-day squad.

In the UAE, Brett Holman played a full game on the left wing as Al Nasr beat Baniyas 4-3. Holman had a fine game providing 2 assists, the first coming after half an hour with a simple pass to Ibrahim Toure who scored the second of his hat-trick. Holman then set up Eder Luis for the match-winning goal in the dying moments with his precise through ball finding Luis who finished well.

Alex Brosque played a full game in attack as Al Ain drew 1-1 with Al Wahda.

Elsewhere, Milan Susak was absent through injury as Al Wasl lost 4-2 to Ajman Club, while Billy Celeski missed Al Shaab’s 2-1 loss to Al Shabab through injury.

In the Qatar Stars League, Sasa Ognenovski played a full game in defence as Umm Salal played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Rayyan SC.

In the Chinese Second Division, Adam Hughes was absent as Harbin Yiteng lost 1-0 to Yanbian Tigers. That loss saw Harbin drop out of the automatic promotion places for the first time since April.
