In the United States, Tim Cahill played a full game in midfield as the New York Red Bulls beat Houston Dynamo 2-0. Cahill provided New York’s best chance in a dour first half, teeing up Thierry Henry but the French striker curled his effort wide.

In South Korea, Alex Wilkinson played a full game in defence as Jeonbuk Motors hammered Gyeongnam 4-0. Wilkinson was the unlikely source of assists in the clash, providing 2 in the second half. Wilkinson’s long ball sent Dong-Gook Lee away on 70 minutes with the South Korean striker outmuscling Shin-Young Yoon before finishing calmly past Kang-Jin Ha. Just 6 minutes later, another long ball again found Lee who cut inside Luke Devere before finishing from tight angle. Devere made his second start of the season for Gyeongnam, playing the full 90 minutes in the clash.

Elsewhere, Eddy Bosnar played a full game in defence as Suwon Bluewings lost 2-1 to Gangwon FC. Brendan Hamill was absent from the Gangwon match-day squad.

Robert Cornthwaite was an 83rd minute substitute as Chunnam Dragons beat Daejeon Citizen 2-1, while Nathan Burns was again absent from the match-day squad as Incheon United beat Pohang Steelers 2-1.

Meanwhile, Adrian Madaschi was absent from the Jeju United side that drew 2-2 with Seongnam.

In the Chinese Super League, Ryan McGowan played a full game in defence as Shandong Luneng drew 1-1 with Guizhou Renhe. Jonas Salley played a full game for Guizhou and was perhaps lucky not to give away a first half penalty after appearing to handle the ball inside his penalty box.

Matt McKay played a full game in midfield as Changchun Yatai made it 2 wins on the trot following a 1-0 win over Liaoning Whowin. McKay butchered a golden opportunity in the second half after stealing the ball off the Liaoning defence but indecision inside the box cost his side a second goal.

Elsewhere, Erik Paartalu played a full game in midfield as Tianjin Teda moved off the bottom of the table following a 1-0 win over Shanghai Shenxin, who were without the injured Michael Marrone, while Rostyn Griffiths was absent with injury as Guangzhou R&F drew 1-1 with Shanghai Shenhua.

Daniel Mullen, Bernie Ibini & Daniel McBreen were all ineligible for their respective side’s matches over the weekend. The former A-League trio will return to action next weekend.

In the Chinese Second Division, Ryan Griffiths found the back of the net and earned a penalty for his side in Beijing Baxy’s 2-0 win Hunan Ziangtao.

Elsewhere, Adam Hughes played a full game as Harbin Yiteng beat Yanbian Tigers 4-3. Hughes went close to scoring in the opening minutes but he powered a header wide of goal from a corner.

Finally in Ireland, striker Mark Griffin started but was replaced on 57 minutes as Derry City beat Bohemians 2-1.
