Ange Postecoglou, who sensationally quit as Socceroos coach after qualifying the national team for the 2018 World Cup finals, has been nominated for AFC Coach of the Year.

He faces off against J-League duo, Ishii Masatada (Japan) who steered Kashima Antlers to championship glory in 2016, and Takafumi Hori, coach of last year’s J-League Cup winners, Urawa Red Diamonds.

Matildas’ superstar Samantha Kerr inexplicably missed the top-three shortlist for the Best FIFA Women’s Player Award in September but must be the red hot favourite to take out the AFC equivalent against Sung Hyang Sim (North Korea) and Saki Kumagai (Japan).

And while Socceroo and Huddersfield Town playmaker Aaron Mooy has enjoyed a successful year he faces stiff competition for the Asian International Player of the Year Award. Borussia Dortmund’s Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa, and Tottenham’s Korean attacker Son Heung-min, round out the shortlist of three.

Finally, Football Federation Australia is up against their counterparts in China and Iran for Inspiring Grassroots Football.

The awards ceremony will be streamed live on Youtube from 10.30pm (AEDT)
