The Italian striker, who has fallen out with nearly every coach he has worked with, was persona non grata under Fabio Capello's regime last season.

Bernd Schuster has since replaced Capello at the helm but it appears as if the Italy international striker is still surplus to requirements.

Asked why Cassano was not travelling to Austria, Real captain Raul said: "You have to ask the sporting bosses.

"He has not come to training and we don't know much more. He is not on the list and will not travel."

Cassano, 25, was considered the hottest property when he joined Roma from Bari in 2001 in what was then a record-breaking deal for a teenager.

However, his talent has been often overshadowed by his temperament and he has spent much time out of first-team contention at Roma and Real after various run-ins with his coaches.

He almost was not included in Marcello Lippi's squad for the successful World Cup campaign of 2006.
