Faouzi Aaish opened the scoring in the sixth minute but India responded just three minutes later through Gouramangi Singh.

Abdulatif then opened his account after 19 minutes and grabbed another three minutes later before sealing his hat-trick 10 minutes before the break.

Sunil Chhetri pulled another goal back early in the second half and, although Bahrain had Aaish sent off just after the hour, they scored a fifth through Abdulatif.

A win for Bahrain in their final Group C game against Australia will send them through to the quarter-finals.

India started the match with brightly and only an acrobatic one-handed save by Mahmood Mansour from Chhetri's first-time volley denied them the lead after three minutes.

Despite their early endeavour, it was Bahrain that took the lead in the eighth minute as Aaish was felled inside the area by Climax Lawrence and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty.

Aaish stepped up to fire home from the spot with goalkeeper Subrata Paul diving the wrong way.

But Bahrain were ahead for a matter of minutes as a long ball from midfield was aimed towards Abishek Yadav and the forward rose to head towards goal where Gouramanghi Singh was on hand to stab the ball home.

The frenetic pace of the game continued as Bahrain regained the lead in the 19th minute as a cross from Aaish deflected off the legs of Paul and the ball fell kindly for Abdulatif, who side-footed a shot into the empty net.

Things got even better for Bahrain three minutes later when Paul rushed out in attempt to collect Jaycee John's cross but failed to get to the ball and Abdulatif was once left with another easy finish.

Bahrain were running riot and the expected fourth arrived 10 minutes before the break with Abdulatif completing his hat-trick, running onto a through ball and then driving home.

India came out fighting after the break and halved the deficit seven minutes into the second half.

Renedy Singh unleashed a rasping drive that struck the underside of the crossbar and, although it appeared to bounce over the line, Yadav hit the follow-up against the woodwork before Chhetri finally headed the ball into the back of the net.

Aaish was then needlessly sent off for Bahrain just after the hour after earning his second yellow card for a dive in the area before they wrapped up the scoring 13 minutes from time through the impressive Abdulatif.
