EXCLUSIVE: Billionaire Indonesian football powerbroker Nirwan Bakrie is ready to finance an A-League swoop with Sergio Van Dijk a target for his club Pelita Jaya, coached by Aussie Misha Radovic.
Representatives from the Indonesian Super League club are actively looking to sign loan deals with a number of A-League players for the second half of the ISL (Indonesia Super League) season.
Currently in the ISL drop zone, the club want to maintain their youth policy however, a broom is being put through the club’s overseas contingent with all five foreigners said to be on their way out.
Pelita are using a mid-season break to draw up a wish-list of A-League stars such as the Reds’ striker. Players from North Queensland are also being looked at while a Dutch league player is also set to sign for the Jakarta-based outfit.
Malaysian star Mohd Safee has also signed with Pelita, inking a one year deal starting March 7.
“We want to push our club up to mid-table this season,” Pelita Jaya director Rahim Soekasah told au.fourfourtwo.com last night from Jakarta.
“The second half of our season is from March to July so with the A-League in off-season we’d like to loan two stoppers and a striker from Australia to help our young squad.
“Our new coach [Radovic] has our team playing good football but all we need is a bit of experience to push us up the table.”
Soekasah, a childhood friend of the club’s billionaire owner and Indonesian football powerbroker Bakrie, added that Indonesia – a country of over 200 million where football is the number one sport - is doing everything possible to improve their football.
“We’d like to produce Indonesian players who can play in bigger leagues around the world as well as one day qualify for the World Cup.”
It’s understood that one of those measures to improve the game is the importing of foreign referees into the ISL.
Radovic, a former Red Star Belgrade player and a UEFA ‘A’ licenced coach, took over the club last November after they parted ways with Singaporean coach Fandi Ahmad.
The former defender played for the famed Belgrade club in the late 1970s and 80s before moving to Australia 20 years ago.
Radovic was a recent guest of the coaching staff at J-League club Nagoya Grampus and the Singapore national team as part of a fact-finding trip to Asia.
“Misha has taken our young squad and got them playing good football but now we need some Australian players to help us even more,” added Pelita Jaya’s team manager Lalu Mara.
