Irvine needed just 12 minutes on the clock to put the Brewers in front at Pirelli Stadium before Lucas Akins put the result beyond doubt with a header on 49 minutes.

But it was the Aussie who earned the headlines with the Burton Mail declaring the Brewers (reportedly) $424,000 signing “a bargain” after he notched up his fifth goal of the season.

The 23-year-old was immense, turning defence into attack, and made it pay off early after Jamie Ward nodded the ball into his path and the Socceroo slid it home off the left foot.

Brewers coach Andy Garner praised the former Celtic and Ross County star.

"You are always looking for a good start and with that hopefully a goal and we got both of them today,” Garner told the club’s website.

"It was a fantastic finish from Jackson. We said with the wet conditions to hit them hard and low and that's exactly what he did.

"That got us on our way and I thought we played some good stuff after that.”

It gave the injury-hit Brewers their first win since August 26 ahead of the international break, during which Irvine will get his chance to line up in crucial World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Japan.
