Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Brescia proved to be the final straw for the Galletti's board.

That loss left Bari at the foot of the standings, nine points behind Catania, who hold the last position of safety.

Bari have managed one victory in their last 19 games and have scored just 14 goals in their 24 outings this season.

A statement on the club's website said: "AS Bari announces that it has mutually ended the working relationship with coach Giampiero Ventura.

"Bari also announces that the new coach is Bortolo Mutti, who has signed a contract until the end of the season."

Mutti, 56, has plenty of experience in Serie A having coached Napoli, Atalanta, Palermo, Reggina and Messina.

Mutti's first game in charge will be against Genoa on Sunday.
