Basile, 65, made his claim on television channel TyC Sports.

City are struggling in the Barclays Premier League this season, despite buying Brazil star Robinho in the summer, and are currently in the relegation zone.

Basile said: "I have offers from Manchester City and from the United Arab Emirates which I am currently studying."

City manager Mark Hughes has stressed he has received assurances from the club's owners that his position is safe and that he will be able to make signings during the winter transfer window to strengthen his team.

Former Wales and Blackburn boss Hughes is confident he retains the support of City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and owner Sheikh Mansour, who took charge in the summer and then funded the acquisition of Robinho from Real Madrid.

City have 18 points from 18 games so far, a disappointing return given they began the season with aspirations of qualifying for Europe.

Basile has had two spells in charge of his native Argentina, from 1991 to 1994, when he led the national team at the World Cup, and from 2006 until October of this year, when he was replaced by Diego Maradona.

City have given no indications they are seeking a new manager, and Basile did not elaborate on his claim of the proposal, or what the role he says he has been offered will involve.

However he added: "I want to continue coaching. I don't know why some people write that I am finished. I think that I will return to work in June or July."
